Inspiration for the Guiding Principles For Success (GPS) Map Book
Early Awakening Through Reading and Self-Discovery
I became addicted to reading at seventeen after completing my first full book, a requirement to graduate high school following a failed attempt the year before. Because I didn’t believe I was smart enough for college, I chose to start working instead. Around that time, I met a young businessman who introduced me to business and self-help books.
A Search for Identity, Purpose, and Passion
In my twenties, I became deeply interested in guiding principles for life and success, drawn in by books, articles, and speakers. The concepts of purpose and identity had the greatest impact on me, followed closely by passion. Over time, I realized that others had experienced similar moments of illumination, some through spiritual journeys, others through practical experience, and many through a blend of both.
Academic Foundations in Leadership, Learning, and Business
Having earned an MBA with a concentration in leadership and an Ed.D. with a concentration in instructional technology and distance education has helped clarify and communicate these guiding principles.
Synthesizing Professional Experience Across Disciplines and Cultures
Working across various fields, including hospitality, construction, instructional design, and digital project management, has deepened my understanding of core fundamentals such as planning, problem-solving, and profitability. Coupled with insights gained from extensive travel and exposure to multiple cultures, this diverse experience eventually led to my being known as “The Synthesiza,” a reflection of my passion for synthesizing knowledge and skills across disciplines.
Twenty-Five Years of Refinement and Breakthrough
Over the years, I struggled to develop an eclectic template grounded in key success principles for both personal and professional goals. Later, I expanded the template to include overlapping frameworks such as mission, vision, and values. After about 25 years of sporadic reflection and experimentation, everything finally clicked into place at the end of 2024! I wish this had happened sooner so I could have applied it more comprehensively over the years, but everything comes in its own time.
Jack Canfield, a multiple New York Times bestselling author who interviewed hundreds of people, stated, “The most successful people I know create superior results [such as achieving goals] yet still maintain a balance among work, family, and recreation in their lives.” This may be difficult, but it is not impossible, especially if you are satisfied with your view of what represents a realistically successful, balanced life.
From Insight to Action: The Birth of This Book
From late 2024 into 2025, I felt compelled to write this book. Its centerpiece is the refined and synthesized template now called interactive worksheets or interactive infographics. To date, I’m unaware of any other comprehensive, customizable two-page interactive worksheet like this.
Create your own actionable GPS Map
The downloadable interactive worksheets contain six prompts: Personality (Identity), Purpose, Passion, Problem-Solving, Planning, and Profit. You will use these prompts to construct your six Guiding Principles for Success (GPS), which will produce your own GPS Map containing your goals. Your completed GPS Map will function like a treasure map, guiding you on a quest to achieve those goals. Have fun while getting it done. Drive on!
